DANNUL AND TINKA DAILEY:
THEATERDANCE WORKSHOP
May 18th and 20th, 2010, 6:30 - 9:00 PM
ALL NEW 'THEATERDANCE' WORKSHOP WITH DANNUL AND TINKA DAILEY (ages 16 and up) Due to the popularity of our April Theaterdance Workshop, we are excited to offer a second experience for developing your skills.
This two part workshop will be focused on the dance style of the forward thinking choreographer, Jack Cole. Jack Cole was one of the leading innovators of jazz dance, defining the term "theaterdance," of his time, (1935-1960s). Influencing the work of choreographers Bob Fosse, Jerome Robbins, Gower Champion and Michael Bennett, his style is still reflected in the work on Broadway today.
The first class will focus on teaching the Jack Cole technique, while the second class will reconstruct a Carol Haney piece. Carol Haney was a long time Cole dancer and her style and approach is all Cole. The piece is called Me and My Gal and was taught to Tinka and Dannul by Buzz Miller, who danced it with Ms. Haney on the Ed Sullivan show in 1955. Building on this exciting and significant technique, you will feel the important influences of the past while expanding your repertoire of style for the present day stage!
DANNUL AND TINKA DAILEY As a choreographer (5th Avenue Theatre’s Mame) and teacher, Dannul’s work is highly regarded in the Seattle dance community. Tinka is also a sought after teacher who has worked extensively with Whitman University and Cornish College of the Arts. Before moving to Seattle from NY, Dannul and wife Tinka were principals and assistants to Lee Theadore, Director of The American Dancemachine, a Broadway dance company dedicated to keeping the choreography and choreographers from past Broadway shows alive. The Dancemachine built a library of more than 80 re-constructed pieces, performing 17 of them in repertory concerts around the country and in NY. Many of the dances were re-constructed by the original choreographers including Tommy Tune, Ron Fields, Agnes DeMille and Buzz Miller, and performed by such Broadway legends as Gwen Verdon and Chita Rivera.
