THE OKLAHOMA! PROJECT
In February 2012 The 5th Avenue Theatre will present the much-loved, time-honored musical Oklahoma! In a unique partnership with Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestras we are reaching out to area students (ages 14-19) to mount an “all-region” student production of Oklahoma! on the 5th Avenue stage.
This production will be entirely student-performed and will be run by a student technical crew under the mentorship and close guidance of theater professionals. The production will be coordinated, marketed, and produced by a student administrative team under the coaching of 5th Avenue Theatre staff. Through this project, a collective of students with diverse interests will meet and work together with the singular goal of creating a show for the historic 5th Avenue stage. Students will be immersed in authentic experiences and gain an appreciation for collaboration—in addition to real skills used in the professional world.

THE TEAMS
Local students (ages 14-19) have the opportunity to audition or apply for a number of positions all crucial to the success of the production:
THE PRODUCTION TEAM will be led by the production director and work with the artistic team. Duties include rehearsal support, research, script reading, production paperwork, special projects, and other administrative work. The production team will also provide cast and company management support when needed. Students involved in drama clubs and extracurricular leadership are ideal candidates.
THE DEVELOPMENT TEAM will work with The 5th Avenue Development department to raise funds for the production. Students on the development team will gain first-hand experience in fundraising for a national leader among non-profit theaters. Students involved in Key Club, ASB, or school fundraising are ideal candidates.
THE MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS TEAM will develop marketing campaigns, social media campaigns, and promotional events for the production. This team will work closely with 5th Avenue staff to ensure that the production has an audience. Students involved in DECA or students with an interest in graphic arts will be ideal candidates.
THE STUDENT FINANCE & TICKETING TEAM will work with 5th Avenue staff to manage the production budget. This will be an amazing opportunity for interested students to learn first-hand about the business operations of a major regional theater. Students involved in Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) are ideal candidates.
THE STUDENT TECHNICAL TEAM will work with the 5th Avenue Professional Technical Theatre team. The professional team will mentor students in industry standard safety and best practices of running shows. Students will run the show under supervision of the 5th Avenue professional technical team.
THE STAGE MANAGEMENT TEAM will work primarily with production stage management and assist stage management during pre-rehearsal, rehearsal, tech and performances. Students in this team will also have the opportunity to shadow members of The 5th Avenue technical crew. Duties will include rehearsal set-up and strike, taking blocking notes, tracking paperwork, and running shows. Upon acceptance, students will need to pre-arrange conflicts that occur during rehearsals. No show conflicts will be accepted for students wishing to help run shows.
THE COSTUMES TEAM will learn how to fit costumes on actors, alter pieces and “rig” them for quick changes. Students will analyze costume designs and learn about the design process as well as help in ironing and prepping costumes for the show and running the show backstage. Students may also have the opportunity to learn basics skills for hair/wigs and makeup. No show conflicts will be accepted for students wishing to help run shows.
STUDENT PERFORMERS Auditions will be held for high school performers (actors and dancers) to constitute the production’s cast. Please see application for more details.
