The 5th Avenue Musical Theatre Company Announces Its 2006 - 2007 Season Auditions: June 16 - 19
David Armstrong Leads Workshop: "How to Audition for Musical Theatre" - May 15
SEATTLE - The 5th Avenue Musical Theatre Company will hold 2006-2007 Season auditions for principal singers, actors and ensemble singers on Friday, June 16, Saturday June 17 and Sunday June 18 from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.; and again on Monday June 19 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. An open audition for experienced dancers who sing will be held on Monday, June 19 from 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. - 10 p.m. Adult performers over the age of 18 with professional musical theater experience are sought for principal, supporting, and ensemble roles in COMPANY, WHITE CHRISTMAS, and WEST SIDE STORY.
To assist performers in the audition process, David Armstrong, producing artistic director, and Bill Berry, associate artistic director and casting director, will lead a workshop: "How to Audition for Musical Theater" on Monday, May 15, 2006 from 7 - 10 p.m. at Theatre Puget Sound ROOM H. The three-hour workshop will focus on the ten things actors desperately need to know for effective musical theater auditions in New York City or Seattle. The workshop is designed for all levels of professional performers. The cost is $15 per person and all proceeds will benefit The 5th Avenue Theatre's Education and Outreach Programs. Auditions for principal actor/singers and ensemble singers for 6/16 - 6/19 are by appointment only. Qualified performers must schedule an audition appointment by calling the audition hotline at (206) 625-1418 beginning Monday, May 15, 2006 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Any actor/singer who appeared on The 5th Avenue Theatre's stage during the 2005-2006 Season should not attend these auditions, but are encouraged to attend the audition workshop.
Auditions for experienced dancers who sing will be held Monday, 6/19 from 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. - 10 p.m. at The 5th Avenue Theatre. You only need to attend one of these dance calls. Adult performers over the age of 18 with professional musical theatre dance experience are sought for ensemble roles in WHITE CHRISTMAS and WEST SIDE STORY."Singers Who Move" should not attend this call. Dancers should come to the audition dressed to dance and must be prepared to follow combination steps under the choreographer's direction. An advanced background in jazz and ballet is required and a strong background in tap is preferred. Dancers should be prepared to sing and bring sheet music in their correct key. No separate audition appointment is needed. An accompanist will be provided.
The 5th Avenue Theatre values diversity in all areas of its operations. We welcome and encourage auditions from people of all ethnic and cultural groups. We are dedicated to nurturing talent and hiring locally. All local and regional Equity and non-Equity actors, singers and dancers are encouraged to audition for the 2006-2007 5th Avenue Season.
All auditioners must bring a resume and a recent 8x10 glossy black-and-white headshot. Photos will not be returned. All auditioners should bring sheet music in their correct key for two stylistically different songs that demonstrate vocal ability, acting ability and stage presence. Selections should be no more than one verse and one chorus in length. Short is good. An accompanist will be provided. Taped accompaniment or singing a cappella will not be permitted. Some of those auditioning may be asked to read from "sides" that will be distributed at the audition.
Performances run: COMPANY (October 17 - November 5, 2006), WHITE CHRISTMAS (November 28 - December 17, 2006), and WEST SIDE STORY (May 29 - June 17, 2007). Rehearsals begin approximately four weeks before each opening. Actors must be available for daytime rehearsals.
