Box Office – First Date

First Date

Mar 10 – May 20, 2012

A collaboration of The 5th Avenue Theatre & ACT:  A Contemporary Theatre.

The hilarious new musical about one date, two people, and all the voices in their heads. How can they know if they're right for each other when old boyfriends, ex-fiancées, best friends, pushy relatives, and even the waiter keep offering unsolicited advice? First Date will be performed in the intimate Falls Theatre at ACT.  ACT Theatre is located at 700 Union Street, just two short blocks east of the The 5th Avenue Theatre.

Parental Guidelines

Rated PG 13

Please note: First Date is a new musical with the script subject to change.

Adult Language: First Date is a contemporary musical that contains both strong language and sexual references; it is not suitable for very young theatergoers.

Violence: None

Sexual References: The entire play takes place during Aaron and Casey's first date: most of it occurs in a restaurant. Both characters, however, imagine encounters with past sexual partners who interfere with this budding relationship; they also imagine that they hear their best friends, who offer dating tips (other customers in the restaurant intermittently take on these roles). In particular, Aaron imagines Gabe, his cocky, arrogant friend who considers himself a ladies' man, giving him (bad) advice from the "Gabe School of Dating." The main characters also ask and answer questions during their dinner together about their past relationships. One character (Casey's best friend Reggi) is gay.

Drugs/Alcohol: The characters drink wine and beer. They also discuss past drug use (one has used drugs, the other has not).

The 5th Avenue / ACT Theatre Partnership

First Date is a co-production of The 5th Avenue Theater and ACT:  A Contemporary Theatre.  It follows in the footsteps of last season's Vanities, the inaugural co-production which played during the spring of 2011.

The 5th Avenue and ACT Theatre began these partnerships in order to stage musicals they might not otherwise produce on their own.  With shared resources, the theaters can explore a wide variety of new and lesser known musicals.  The Falls Theater at ACT is an ideal space to stage the more intimate musicals selected for these partnerships.

The 5th Avenue is extremely pleased to continue the partnership with ACT Theatre for the 2011-12 season with First Date.  This production offers a remarkable chance for 5th Avenue subscribers and single-ticket buyers alike to experience the birth of a brand new musical comedy, as well as to visit one of Seattle’s foremost theaters, perhaps for the very first time.

ACT:  A Contemporary Theatre is located at 700 Union Street, just two short blocks northeast of The 5th Avenue Theatre.
