Adult Language
There is some mild use of adult language, including a few "hells" and "damns" and one use of "God-damned." One character calls himself an "SOB" and yells, "That bitch!" when he is served with papers charging him with breach of promise. A judge informs a prosecuting attorney that he has a "shitty case" and uses the expression "for Christ's sake." Aimee, faced with a crowd that throws a rock through her window and calls her a whore, responds, "We're all whores."
Violence
Aimee hits and punches her third husband, David, when she learns that he is being sued for breach of promise only a week after they married.
Sexual References
Emma Jo, Aimee's African-American secretary, used to run "Madam Mama's Gentleman's Club." In a flashback, we see her and her "girls" perform a number called "A Girl's Gotta Do What a Girl's Gotta Do" ("A girl's gotta go where a girl's gotta go / And God knows we go all the way"). When Aimee visits the club and tells Emma Jo that "I think you're no different from me… God made us both," Emma Jo joins Aimee's mission. Later the prosecutor at Aimee's trial will accuse her of associating with "gypsies, homosexuals, illegal aliens, the KKK, negroes, drunkards, women of ill repute."
Drugs/Alcohol
While en route to China, Aimee and first husband Robert visit with (but don't join) partying Irish passengers, who drink beer and joke about tomorrow's hangovers.
Aimee enters a saloon and asks the customers what they're drinking ("Anything we can! And as much as possible!") She asks, "What if I could promise you you'll never be thirsty again?" She is thrown out of the tavern, but is not discouraged.
Aimee is seen taking pills for stress provided by her doctor. After her third husband David's betrayal, she will collapse with a nervous breakdown and be briefly confined in a sanitarium.
