Behind Bombay Dreams

Bombay Dreams has it all:

An Exotic Setting: Bollywood

This dazzling stage spectacle is set in bustling Bollywood. The thriving South Asian film industry boasts more than 900 movies a year, making it the largest film industry in the world. India's movies are hugely popular. In most Bollywood films, action stops for song and dance extravaganzas complete with comedy and dare-devil thrills. Bollywood plots tend to be melodramatic and frequently employ familiar story lines such as: star-crossed lovers, angry meddling parents, love triangles and conniving villains.

A Visionary Creator: Andrew Lloyd Webber

Based on an idea from the musical mastermind Andrew Lloyd Webber, Bombay Dreams opened in 2002 in his hometown, London. He is the genius behind many of the most popular shows of all time including Cats, The Phantom of the Opera, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat among many others. In 2004, Webber produced a film version of his own The Phantom of the Opera. Webber owns seven London Theatres and has won seven Tony awards, three Grammy's, six Oliviers, a Golden Globe, an Oscar and an International Emmy.

Music By the World’s Top-Selling Composer: A. R. Rahman

A.R. Rahman has sold over 100 million albums worldwide - more than Elton John. He is India's most popular composer and has developed scores for over 75 Bollywood films. Rahman wrote the soundtrack for the film Lagaan; Once Upon a Time in India, which was nominated for best foreign language film at the 2002 Academy Awards. He also wrote the score for the musical adaptation of J.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, which opened in February 2006 in Toronto.
